(Booting problems AHA-1542C) Message-ID: <1994Feb16.133543.6901@news.brandonu.ca> From: weingart@BrandonU.CA (Tobias Weingartner) Date: 16 Feb 94 13:35:42 CST Reply-To: weingart@BrandonU.CA Followup-To: poster Distribution: world Organization: Brandon University (Bit Cave) Keywords: AHA-1542C Nntp-Posting-Host: austin.brandonu.ca Lines: 37 Hi all. I have been trying to install NetBSD-0.9 on a 486DX2-66, that has 16 MB of RAM. Also, this machine has a AHA-1542C in it. The disk is a Fujitsu (1GB). The problem is that the AHA BIOS is disabled. This was done by the local computer services, and they would rather not un- bolt the machine to change this. Bright little me thought I could boot from the aha-kc-fs... floppy, and then enter "sd(0,a)/netbsd" at the very first prompt. However, I get an error (not exact): Error ...: 0 ...: 0, etc Error ...: 0 ...: 0, etc Error ...: 0 ...: 0, etc ... The question: Can I do this? Boot from a floppy, then tell it to use the sd() for the actual filesystem? If not from the kernel- copy floppy, then how do I do this? Do I *HAVE* to enable the AHA BIOS? Everything else works fine. No problem with the 1542C yet, and even the portions of the install script that I saw were done VERY well. Kudos to the people who made this possible... ;-) --Toby. ----------------------------------------------------------------- | Tobias Weingartner | PGP2.x Public Key available at | | (204)725-3342 | 'finger weingart@austin.BrandonU.CA' | | %SYSTEM-F-ANARCHISM, the operating system has been overthrown | -----------------------------------------------------------------
