Maybe you have a different app-defaults file? In the xlock app-defaults file
you can set timings and delays etc. I've seen different installations,
some where swarm ran fast, some where a lot of delay was put it 
(so that the machine is not loaded unnecessarily).

Doesn't anyone have xstone ratings of Linux vs. FreeBSD?
