I think it was nate who suggested (in your .Xmodmap or something like that...) to put a: keycode 22 = Delete in there. Try something like this. BTW, did you ever get the XFree86 to close down correctly? I still have not. I still have no shell after closing it. I think I will try to install SYSCONS.
