Our present product allows the LAN administrator to monitor over thirty five variables on the health and performance of Novell servers, setting greater-than/less-than thresholds on any combination of these, which will trigger a "down" status if exceeded. The administrator can choose to be notified of such events by customized messages sent by email, modem, alpha-numeric pager, and on screen alert. We think a UNIX server version should monitor things like load averages & memory utilization, total number of processes, failed forks, zombies, total & failed disk I/O, cache hit rates, free disk space, inode usage, etc. If you have any ideas regarding what would be important to the UNIX administrator, please write back to me. We appreciate all input. ====================================================================== Ron Stone rstone@ccs.carleton.ca -- ====================================================================== Ron Stone rstone@ccs.carleton.ca or ac258@freenet.carleton.ca
