my solution would be:

write a Xconfig timing that does a TV-like video signal
( interlaced, 625 lines in PAL, horizontal resolution 
  would be free, maybe about 600 to 800 pixels,
  to find that timing get someone with an oscilloscope
  and some videosignal knowledge)

then connect the monitor cable to a SCART VCR/TV via
RGB-inputs. in my eyes one *should* be able to do this.
