Is it really?  I thought you had to be SQUID compacent to be called
Unix, and I don't think v7 is.

:general, options are preceded by a dash, arguments to those options aren't.

Not all others -- consider tar, ar, dump, restore, and dd.

I think they should probably tolerate the minus, but it's frustrationg to
*require* it when so many of us learned them the other way.  I'm sure
1003.2 will "fix" all these for us, though.

Now if only all programs would recognize '-' for input as stdin 
and for output to be stdout.
