Duzan) Subject: *BSD Capabilities Summary Organization: Delaware State Hospital Date: Thu, 24 Mar 1994 23:45:16 GMT Message-ID: <Cn70nv.pI@dragon.dsh.org> Lines: 33 To put a few facts into the inevitable *BSD comparisons, I would like to put together a summary of capabilities of specific versions of {386,Free,Net}BSD. The data will include device drivers and other major features (virtual memory, file systems, etc.) The initial versions of this summary should come from primary developers/core group members and contain only solid facts about their system, though referencing differences from the previous version (or parent OS) is encouraged for the sake of brevity. All data should be specifically related to a particular version, or "as of" date for -current systems. To allow for a fair comparison, I will allow groups to see the other groups' response and respond before releasing the summary to the public. Once the hard data is in hand, I will put together a poll to determine user satisfaction with particular features of each OS version. Who am I to put this together? Just another user and admin, for the most part. I've set up and operated systems running 386BSD 0.1pk, FreeBSD 1.0 {Gamma, Epsilon}, and NetBSD {0.9, current}, and I'm not particularly biased toward any of them. I'm also curious about the results, myself, and I have some time to donate to society. I hope the major players will participate, as having this information in an easy-to-digest format can only help users and potential users. Thanks. Gary D.
