The 4MB SIMMS were the source of the failure. I thought---because my machine worked in spite of the failed memory test---that my BIOS (Award 1990) or my Cache (20ns) was the culprit. I tested the SIMMS in two other machines (both 486) and they crashed or reported a memory fault. 'gave them back today and received new ones in return. Now all is fine. Again, Thanx for your advice. -Arnulf --
