CHANGES ------- Minnie has XFree86 2.1 for anonymous ftp in BSD/phillip/FreeBSD/XFree86-2.1. Minnie has two new Web documents: http://minnie/htbin/newsbsd is an interactive document which queries the BSD Usenet News archive. It's nicer than the telnet interface. http://minnie/FreeBSD-srctree/FreeBSD.html is a hyperlinked version of the FreeBSD kernel source code. Ftp --- Minnie has the following BSD-related stuff available by anonymous ftp: + 386bsd-0.1 - Patchkits to take 386bsd-0.1 to patchlevel 0.2.4. + BSDisc - The BSDisc CD-ROM. This contains FreeBSD-0.1, NetBSD-0.9, XFree86-2.0, and programs that have been ported to both systems. + bsdnews - The Usenet news about *BSD, from just after the release of 386bsd-0.1 in June 1992. + daemons - Gif images of the BSD Daemons. These are copyright by Marshall Kirk McKusick. + phillip - NFS mount of some other *BSD stuff, which is maintained by Phillip Musumeci here at ADFA. Future Directories: + 4.4BSD-Lite - The entire source tree for 4.4BSD-Lite. + net2 - The kernel source tree for the Net/2 distribution. Please ftp from a site closer to you, if there is one. Australia has a single link to the Internet, and it's usually saturated. Thanks! Web Documents ------------- All of the BSD-related information on minnie can be accessed through the Web at http://minnie.cs.adfa.oz.au/BSD-info/BSD.html. Find out about the following: + BSD-related news, e.g the end of the UCB/USL litigation. + Information on the flavours of *BSD and the architectures on which they run. + BSD-related mailing lists and user groups. + CD-ROMs containing the free BSD flavours. + FAQs about *BSD, XFree86 and tape drives. + Interactive access to the Usenet News on *BSD. + A hyperlinked version of the FreeBSD kernel source code. + Other ftp sites for *BSD. + Other BSD-related Web documents. Bsdnews ------- Minnie.cs.adfa.oz.au keeps an archive of the Usenet news on *BSD, taken from the newsgroups comp.os.386bsd.* and comp.unix.bsd. This archive can be accessed either via telnet, email or through the WorldWide Web. You can do two things: + search through the news subject lines for a particular pattern + retrieve particular articles To do this by telnet, telnet to minnie.cs.adfa.oz.au and login as `bsdnews'. To do this through the Web, connect to the Web URL above and follow the link to the News page. To access the archive by email, send email to bsdnews@minnie.cs.adfa.oz.au with your commands in the body of the email. The commands are: help - get help about the service grep <egrep pattern> - look for this pattern in the subject lines read <article> - retrieve the specific article quit - lines after this command will be ignored You can send multiple commands in an email to minnie. Your return email will have your command lines and the results of each command line. ---- Warren Toomey wkt@sparcserve.cs.adfa.oz.au
