I have two other (SCSI) drives on the same machine which give me no trouble. The drive in question is a Micropolis 1528-15. MICROP_1528_15|MCP_1528-15| SCSI FreeBSD installation generated:\ :dt=SCSI:ty=winchester:\ :nc#2100:ns#83:nt#15:\ :se#512:\ :pa#89640:oa#0:ta=4.2BSD:ba#8192:fa#1024:\ :pb#29880:ob#89640:tb=swap:\ :pc#2614500:oc#0:\ :pe#2494980:oe#119520:te=4.2BSD:be#8192:fe#1024:\ :pd#2614500:od#0: I generated this on a FreeBSD box because NetBSD 0.8 would not disklabel the drive. Because this is a news spool, I newfs'ed partition `e' with: newfs -m 5 -i 3072 ( -m5 = 5% free space -i 3072 = 3072 bytes / inode ) Standard 8K block sizes were used. During the /etc/daily run where an fsck is done on each drive, I get the following messages ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** /dev/rsd2e (NO WRITE) ** Last Mounted on /v CANNOT READ: BLK 318896 CONTINUE? yes THE FOLLOWING DISK SECTORS COULD NOT BE READ: 318967, UNALLOCATED I=15713 OWNER=news MODE=100664 SIZE=0 MTIME=Mar 30 02:20 1994 FILE=/var/spool/news/out.going/orca1 REMOVE? no ------------------------------------------------------------------------ In /var/log/messages: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mar 30 02:19:17 netbsd08 /386bsd: sd2: medium error block no. 0 (decimal) Mar 30 02:19:47 netbsd08 /386bsd: sd2: medium error block no. 0 (decimal) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I have ahd this problem on the same drive before and thought a low level format would fix it. It didn't.
