Which is a nice thing, since I saw my new localbus box with 32Mb and FreeBSD 1.0.2 wonder off into noman's land :-( using an adaptec 1542. The only remedy was to pull 16Mb. :-( I already sort of knew this. => What this means in plain english is that the lastest snapshot of => FreeBSD enables those folks with more than 16MB of memory and an ISA, => EISA (emulating ISA) or semi-broken VLB (Buslogic) SCSI controller => card to function properly. All those folks with 32MB of memory and => Adaptec 1542 cards may now rejoice! :-) I also have a BusLogic 445S Rev D with 3.36 BIOS, but that doesn't even boot with 32Mb. Friend informed me that I'd need a Rev E board with a 3.37 version BIOS for this. Calling the Dutch Buslogic import-person: "Eh, uhm, ehhh. Yes, ehh.......... There is going to be a jumperless board, but it's only going to be released by the end of april." Fortunatly he agreed to let me use the Rev D. board until he had a replacement. => I am not yet sure whether or not we'll be able to add the functionality => back into 1.1 without potentially destabilizing the release (which would => not be in anyone's interest), so this may have to wait for FreeBSD 1.2 => to see the "official" light of day. Those who are willing to take => the plunge may, of course, run -current from any time as of now. => Should the situation regarding 1.1 change, I will be sure to let all => of you know. Given the current state of affairs with VESA manufacturers it will be a GOOD thing when bounce buffers make it into the release.
