Summary: which would you recommend and why?
Keywords: linux freebsd debate

Greetings!

I have recently purchased a pentium for home use/home office use. I
intend to run some form of free UNIX on this machine for the purposes
of messing around with (ie nothing serious, just good fun).

And I have reached a quandary. Which free UNIX too run? Many of my
neighbors here at school have Linux, and they are very happy with it.
Unfortunately, as I am graduating in June, their help, while nice, is
not a constant.

My bosses at the Computer center here have a few FreeBSD machines,
which they seem quite happy with. However, again due to graduation,
their support is impossible.

Given my situation, which would you recommend and why?

Please keep in mind that over the next several months, my internet
access will be shotty at best, and therefore all material I will need
must be available via CD-ROM from which I installed the system...

Reply either by e-mail or post. Serious, well thought out responses
only, please (I realize that this discussion can often lead to near
religious wars...). Thank you in advance!
