For two years, I pretty much downloaded all 386bsd and their derivatives using 14.4k a modem -- it requires a bit of planning and patience. For instance, all large transfers were initiated late at nite, so with a bit of luck, I would wake up to a succesful download. Also, it helps a lot to have a fast tape backup. My 2.0 gb scsi DAT drive is not that fast but it serves its purpose. Both Linux and FreeBSD are available via CDROM.
