Hello All.
I am new to this all (surprise, surprise...) and had a few questions about
installing FreeBSD onto a second hard-dirve.
First, my setup...
AHA-1540B
SCSI-ID 0: Fujitsu 420Mb (All OS/2 HPFS),
SCSI-ID 1: Maxtor 7120 (Destined for FreeBSD),
SCSI-ID 2: Rodime 72Mb (OS2-DOS FAT),
SCSI-ID 5: Toshiba 3401 CD-ROM Drive.
I would like to install FreeBSD on my Maxtor drive and select boot OS with
a boot selector.
Read the FAQ. Says OS-BS 1.35 cannot select second HD as boot drive. Hmm.
Says use BOOTEASY.
I purchased the CD-ROM version 1.0 (FreeBSD) ans successfully created
the boot floppy. When booting, looks like everything is discovered and
correctly ID'ed. Asks if I wish to continue installation. I chicken out
due to reading the FAQ about 2nd HD installation.
Therefore a few questions if you will...
1.) The CD-ROM has OS-BS ver 2.0 Beta 8 on it. I installed it on the Fujitsu
drive and it works like a charm booting OS/2. However, I see no
documentation referencing this version of OS-BS or its capabilities
above and beyond ver 1.35. Can someone enlighten me? Can THIS version
select a second HD as boot device?
2.) Looks like I need a modified kernel to account for installation on a second
HD. Is there a pre-made kernel laying around anywhere that I can grab
or must I remove my first SCSI HD (in order to make the FreeBSD target
drive unit #1) to install then re-make a modified kernel? Is this boot
code in the kernel?
Greatly appreciate the help...
Kolin
