I've been having problems getting my internal USR Sportster modem to work
under NetBSD 0.9. The modem has worked fine for over a year and continues
to work fine under DOS and Linux. However, under NetBSD (in ANY comm
program, cu, tip, kermit), the modem accepts input, but doesn't output
anything. I type ATA and I hear the modem go off hook and try to get
a carrier, etc. However, things like AT return no output and ATE1 does
not do anything either. Dialing and connecting with machines produces no
output either. Additionally, under kermit, when I try to quit, I get a
message like "/dev/tty01: timeout closing device". Also, quitting out
of cu or tip causes a machine hang.
Here's what I've tried so far:
I've done all the things listed in FAQ #8.
I've played with the DIP switches to force local echo to no avail.
I've moved the com port of the modem from 3 to 2 and changed IRQ's
appropriately. The modem still works in DOS, still doesn't work
    in NetBSD.
Also, I've noticed that if I reboot after experiencing these problems in
NetBSD, the modem WON'T work in DOS. I have to cycle the power before
the modem works in dos again.

Any help/hints/ideas/pointers will be greatly appreciated.
