   Anyway, how is UNIX going to keep being advanced if no one but
   commercial vendors are working on it?  Oh well, just some passing
   thoughts...

Hmmm.  I have only two things to say about this.

NetBSD.

FreeBSD.

Seems to me they're both keeping the BSD Unix spirit.  Throw in some Linux
and some Hurd for spice, and the Unix community seems to be alive and well
to me.
