How do I create shared libraries?

Very simple question, isn't it? Since there is still no man page for
the ld(1), I can not figure it out. I looked in
/usr/share/mk/bsd.lib.mk but found only a -Bsharable option. However
this didn't decrease the size of my library (I don't have the sources
for FreeBSD libraries, so I can't investigate.

Any hint is much appreciated.

regards
-Gunther
