VanLoon) Newsgroups: comp.os.386bsd.misc,comp.os.386bsd.questions Subject: Settings for Mitsumi/Tandy CD-ROM? Date: 30 Apr 94 06:02:02 GMT Organization: Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa Lines: 47 Message-ID: <michaelv.767685722@ponderous.cc.iastate.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: ponderous.cc.iastate.edu cc: current-users@sun-lamp.cs.berkeley.edu I was given an old Tandy CD-ROM drive. The controller for this drive has Mitsumi printed on it in small letters on a part on the card. So, I decided to see if it would work with the Mitsumi CD-ROM driver in NetBSD-current. To my utter amazement, it read an Ultrix documentation CD with no problems. However, when autoconfig probes it on bootup, I get this: mcd0: timeout in getreply mcd0 at isa0 port 0x300-0x303 irq 3 Then, if I try to run workman on it to play an audio CD, I get kernel messages like this: Apr 30 00:11:59 MindBender /netbsd: mcd0: timeout in getstat Apr 30 00:11:59 MindBender /netbsd: mcd0: timeout in getreply Apr 30 00:11:59 MindBender /netbsd: mcd0: timeout in getstat Apr 30 00:12:00 MindBender /netbsd: mcd0: timeout in getreply Apr 30 00:12:00 MindBender /netbsd: mcd0: timeout in getstat Apr 30 00:12:00 MindBender /netbsd: mcd0: setting mode to 5 Apr 30 00:12:00 MindBender /netbsd: mcd0: setting mode to 5 Apr 30 00:12:00 MindBender /netbsd: mcd0: setting mode to 1 And, no matter what, workman thinks the drive is empty. Like I said, even though I get these problems under specified conditions, it reads an Ultrix CD-ROM without a single problem. I have two questions: 1) Does anyone familiar with the mcd driver know of anything special I'm going to have to do to get workman running? 2) Since this drive was given to me, I have no documentation -- can anyone email me the switch and jumper settings for their Tandy and/or Mitsumi CD-ROM drive? If it makes any difference, mine's just an 8-bit controller board. Thanks for any clues you can send my way. --Michael -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Michael L.
