I know that VLB was originally spec'd at 50Mhz, but from comments I've
heard on other mailing lists and newsgroups nobody runs it past 40Mhz
due to timing problems.

I suspect some of your VLB cards (all of them?) can't run at 50Mhz.

Also, if the chip is the Cyrix chip then it could be problem as well as
I don't think FreeBSD correctly handles it as it is not 100% Intel
compatible.
