Is there a patch or a version of dist.fs which will recognise ethernet on irq 10?. (I know that the other soln is to get the source and make a new OS, BUT!, I want to use the ethernet to get the rest of the stuff!). 2) What does the etc01 dist contain? 3) Why is the passwd field in the file /etc/master.passwd unencrypted?. I created a couple of new accounts using vipw and the new "accountees" gave themselves new passwd which are stored in plain text in the file. (readable when I do vipw). Granted that the file /etc/master.passwd is rw only by root, but it is still highly irregular to have even root this type of privilege. 4) Has anyone used "tip" successfully?, I managed to dial out to our campus network but the blessed thing refuesed to return control to the keyboard after normal exit. Upon termination of a session, the keyboard is unusable (I tried to kill tip or whatever was left of it by using ^C, ^Z (and then kill) etc. but all I saw were some nice "heart" and strange chars on the screen i.e. something went haywire) suggestions anyone? Also does any one have a number for one of the sites I can get 386bsd from. I hope to have gotten a solution to either problem 1 or 4 soon! 5) Shutdown seems to have been overwritten with the bsd version of shutdown as a result shutdown -todos does net exist anymore. (or am I missing something?). 6) what is the equivalent of SunOS' "catman" to make the whereis.db to be used by the "whereis" command.
