OK, I freely admit to being newbie-come-lately BSD sys admin-for myself
and just trying to learn the ropes. I'm running BSDI 1.1 on a 486 DX/2 66
with adequate capacities, using a USR Sportster. I've set up a CSLIP
connection (dialup from NETCOM) and have got it to run on a Mac. The
connection works fine.

I've read a bit in ORA's TCP/IP Net Admin, and every README, FAQ,
How_To and Lizard book I can Gopher, Archie, ftp or check out of a library.
Using TIP I can dial into a shell account or the SLIP account. However,
after using configsl from BSDI, I can ping the gateway address of netcom,
but not a specific nameserver. Is this because of my failure to configure
for CSLIP? (It is a CSLIP account) I can't seem to find where/how to
configure for CSLIP. Also, when entering my IP address in /etc/hosts -
should it be <my.IP.address.here> <my_machine_name> <my_domain_name>

and *then* the gateway name and address followed by
the default name and address of netcom?

configsl doesn't give any option to enter a secondary address, should
hosts be configured first or is it not necessary at all?

Am I warm? Am I neglecting to set up a file? Can someone walk me through this
in twenty five words or less?

I've tried this also,

a)	dial in with TIP to the CSLIP account

b) suspend TIP using ~!

c)	ifconfig sl0 inet 199.35.141.27 192.100.81.110
(the second address is the _gateway_ address)

d)	slattach /dev/tty01 19200

e) can ping the gateway, but that's all. BTW, telnet hangs up just
before the login prompt, I assume this is because of not having
configured for CSLIP, and it's croaking on
the compression at that point, correct?

out of sequence? missing parameter? haven't bought enough O'Reilly books yet?

Any help would be great,
