On page 4-15 my AHA-1540C/1542C User's Guide reads: Ignore in BIOS Scan [...babble about older adapters...] This option allows the user to enable or disable, on a per target device basis, which devices the host adapter should attempt to use as a boot device, and which should be ignored. Devices not ignored are treated as interrupt 13h boot devices as described in Advanced Configuration Options under System Boot (INT 19h) Controlled by Host Adapter BIOS later in this chapter. If you go to your local Fry's Electronics and pick up an AHA 1542CF, then it will *positively* let you boot from any block device on any ID. In fact, I've booted my system from disk on ID 0, disk on ID 1, and tape on ID 3. The 154xB can't, but that's irrelevant since it's quickly becoming obsolete, and it doesn't make sense discussing what yesterday's firmware used to do. -- -- Jan Brittenson bson@ai.mit.edu
