Has anyone built FreeBSD on a DECpc ?

Yup, I run it on several!

I am having problems with it recognising the mouse that comes with this

Look at freebsd.cdrom.com:~ftp/pub/FreeBSD/FreeBSD-current/src/contrib/FAQ/programs/psm

Follow the instructions contained therein.
