You don't say whether you're using NetBSD or FreeBSD.  There IS a distinction
in the case of the ep driver.

In the case of NetBSD-current the following should work for you 
assuming you're only trying to get one 3c5x9 working:

device ep0 at isa? port ? irq ?

If you have more than one 3c5x9 then you will need to specify 
the port and irq explicitely.

If you're running NetBSD you can also do a "man ep" to see what
additional flags to use with ifconfig to make it go.

Since I don't use FreeBSD I don't know how much of the above is 
applicable.
