I've tried both : files one 3.5 and 5.25 disks... The disk is left corrupted after rawrite is : done. (i.e. trying to access it gives me a general failure error). Uhm, if I read you correctly, you're missing the point. By 'general failure error,' I gather you really mean 'General failure reading from drive A:' which to me says you're trying to use the DIR command in DOS to view the contents of the disk. (I may be wrong, but I'm prepared to swear on a stack of man pages that you'll never see the message 'general failure' anywhere in FreeBSD, or any other UNIX for that matter. :) You can't do that: the floppy you've just created is a bootable FreeBSD disk, not an MS-DOS disk. It has a 4.2 BSD filesystem on it, not an MS-DOS 'FAT' filesystem, so of course you can't do a DIR on it. Rawrite is probably working just fine. Put the disk in your A: drive and reboot your machine. You should get a boot prompt. I'll wager you're supposed to have your Walnut Creek CR-ROM in your CD-ROM drive at the same time (I'm guessing here because I don't have it myself -- I downloaded the distribution from the net). Press ENTER at the boot prompt and see what happens. Now, if I guessed wrong, and you actually have tried booting the floppy already and still encountered errors, then I hereby entitle you to make as many nasty remarks about my lack of mental acuity, questionable parentage or poor taste in ties as are needed to make you feel better. But frankly, I strongly suspect than all you need to do is R the FM a little more closely. (That, or the FM in question isn't clear about what needs to be done. The CD-ROM does come with intstructions, doesn't it?) Hope this helps. Really. :) -Bill : -- : MacXperts, Inc. 804.353.7122 : Certified Apple Developers fax 804.358.3847 Uhm, yeah.
