Well, I had problems with NetBSD0.9 and my 1542c very similar to the
symptoms described. It was driving me nuts because my system had
survived many OS upgrades. At any rate, I called adaptec and explained
to them my problem they agree to replace my adaptec controller at no
no cost. I also replaced my scsi II cables with shielded scsi two cables.

My configuration is:

dat drive (external)
toshiba 1.2gb disk (external)
toshiba 3401 cdrom (internal)

My controller even works on my P66. I started out on a 486DX33.
Have not had a scsi problem in a long, long time now

	Good Luck,
	Amancio
