I am using an UltraStor host adapter card (I was told that it would replace an Adaptec card, which I only *partially* believed!) I wish to split my second disk into two partitions, in a manner after what I did on the primary disk. My system is a Gateway 2000 486-33. Now for the (novice) questions: how exactly does one go about adding a SCSI disk to 386bsd? I have partitioned and formatted 120M of the second disk for DOS, w/o any problems. For 386bsd I have tried to boot with the 2-harddisk kernel referenced in the FAQ (on f.ms.uky.edu): in the initial device scan I get the following: wd0 WDC <AC2200F> at 0x1f0 irq 14 on isa wd1 at 0x1f0 irq 14 on isa and then the system soon hangs. I have tried various jumper settings on the UltraStor card...in fact I have set irq to 15 and the i/o address to something OTHER than 0x1f0, but still I always get the above line for wd1. The UltraStor guidebook has instructions for getting things up and running using SCO UNIX and AT&T UNIX, including device drivers that can be compilled into the kernel. (Of course, I can't even hope to remake the kernel until I get the second disk running :-) If I use the original (one harddisk) boot, can I then do disklabel etc. etc. to the SCSI disk? Also, why are there no SCSI disk types listed in /etc/disktab? Is it because they are treated differently than IDE/ESDI by the operating system? How should SCSI disks/devices appear to 386bsd? Could someone please help me out? Email replies prefered, and if anyone else is having similar problems I can summarize whatever info I receive. Thanks. -tom -- Tom Tobin UUCP: pur-ee!tgt Dept. of ChE INTERNET: tgt@ecn.purdue.edu Purdue University Ma Bell: home (317) 463-0189 W. Lafayette, IN 47907 office " 494-4052
