I'm having the same problem, it looks like ctwm is trying to
read it's .ctwmrc from stdin ,why I haven't found yet. It looked like
a lex problem but using flex didn't solve it. I have just found
a working gdb and maybe I'll spend some time this weekend tracking it
down.

Starting ctwm as 'ctwm <.ctwmrc' seems to work.
