I'm assuming that you are running a machine w/out a hardware FP processor, since the kernel emulator isn't a very good one in 386/Free/NetBSD. The GPL'd Linux kernel emulator can be added to FreeBSD which fixes most if not all of the kernel emulation problems. See the FAQ directory on the FreeBSD archive sites.
