You can try NetBSD and/or FreeBSD (both free).  You can obtain the BSD
FAQ (which covers NetBSD and FreeBSD) from ftp.iastate.edu in
/pub/netbsd/FAQ/.

No problem.  SCSI is significantly more efficient, however (BusLogic
cards recommended).

This is just native to BSD.  You don't get BSD without it. ;-)

The free BSD's both use gcc.

The system would hardly even notice such a "small" load.
