Ok, I think that I know what the problem was... Please forgive me -- but
I can't keep very good context because I am not on my home machine when
reading news.  Are you running on an ISA bus machine with > 16MB?  If you
are -- I just found a bug (and have *finally* been able to reproduce it) that
acts *EXACTLY* like the problem that you have been experiencing.  This
problem only manifests itself on -current with bounce support and only under
certain kernel configs.  It no longer breaks my machine with a kernel that
otherwise would mess up my filesystem.  I have it in test and if you whant
to try the fixed modules -- email me at dyson@implode.root.com, where I
can send you the files *much* easier.
