He got: >I am having some problems with BSD 1.1. > >I got my system up and running with BSD. I had everything working until I installed the SRCDIST files. After I installed all 14 disks worth (1.44m) I get the following on boot up: > >panic: init died >syncing disks... done > >dumping to dev 1, offset 52160 > >dump 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 succeeded > >Then it reboots. It is in a loop. I don't particulary know what to do. I tried to copy a new kernel just incase that got corupted somehow. I am inexperienced wiht UNIX systems, but am learning. If any of you know what is wrong. Please help me. Thanks > The loop is due to the kernel not finding /sbin/init. What happens is that during the install /sbin/init gets renames to /sbin/init.17 or something similar. Also /bin/sh will gets renamed to /bin/sh.17 as well as /etc/termcap gets renamed too. There are two ways to fix this. If you boot from the distribution kernel floppy and bring up the filesystem disk but do not install you can mount the root filesystem of the hard disk. When you have it mounted you simply go into the appropriate directories and rename init, sh and termcap. On the otherhand when you do a binary install before you reboot the newly installed binaries you can go to the appropriate directories and rename init, sh and termcap.
