I have zero unix experience but my knowlege of VMS internals and the VAX architecture is detailed. The OS does not seem to support the 2000 but it does have support for the MicroVAX II. I am going to have to try to build stuff under VMS to create something I can boot. What are the chances of a unix novice being able to get this going? I am very used to debugging the OS and drivers under VMS using delta so I recon I must have some chance. Has anyone got this stuff up on the 2000? Anybody got any pointers for me as places to start? Things to read? I guess I am going to have to build a unix file system under VMS then put this on a TK50 and load it into the 2000. The same sort of thing you can do with exchange under VMS to produce files that look like RT-11 disks. (Others out there in net land probably have a much better Just to confirm this (speaking for the FreeBSD team), it's true. Both groups are legally compelled to go in this direction (thank god it's a technically fulfilling direction as well! :-). There are VAX portions (i.e. drivers) in the networking-II-release (well, which must be replaced by 4.4lite when it is available), but I think you can always use it as a reference. Networking Release II is still available on gatekeeper and uunet. There's also some VAX support in 4.4 Lite, though it's pretty green as well. As it says in /sys/vax/README: The VAX architecture does not compile in 4.4BSD, as it has not been converted to the new VM. It is here for porting information purposes only. The overall structure seems to indicate that it might run on big vaxen with some work, however. The mba/ and bi/ subdirectories actually appear to have some code in them. Jordan ============================================================================= I hope this helps. try gatekeeper.dec.com for sources. neill was kind enough to mail me a response to my query re his posting...alas is seems there is no ready to go bsd for the mv2, vs2000 and related beasts..It's a shame - I have 3 of them and no real OS to run. I refuse VMS and don't want an illegit Ultrix Cheers - heinz From focsys!xenitec!mks.com!whirlwind!library.ucla.edu!ihnp4.ucsd.edu!swrinde!pipex!uknet!EU.net!uunet!zib-berlin.de!unidui!unidui!not-for-mail Tue May 31 18:00:23 EDT 1994 Article: 1966 of comp.unix.bsd Path: focsys!xenitec!mks.com!whirlwind!library.ucla.edu!ihnp4.ucsd.edu!swrinde!pipex!uknet!EU.net!uunet!zib-berlin.de!unidui!unidui!not-for-mail From: sk001sp@unidui.uni-duisburg.de (Martin Spott) Newsgroups: comp.unix.bsd Subject: BSD for DEC VAX ?
