Just about a few mins ago, another one of this "fun stories" happened to me: 386BSD runs happily with an EtherCard PLUS Elite, one of these WD8003 cards, where you setup the configration by software. Due to a stoopid mistake on myself, while fiddling around with the /sbin/init (to make it use /bin/ash, so that I can supply the bash for /bin/sh), I forgot to make /sbin/init executable. Sure as hell, when trying to boot the Kernel PANICked ("init died", "saving RAM..." or such), went into endless booting loop. ok. to cut a long story short, after fixing and re-booting, 386BSD no longer knew my EtherCard. well ... boot up DOS , start diagnose program and ... well it said, "LAN Adress ROM" faulty. hmm... run ezsetup, store the configuration (no changes) anew, run diagnose -> board tests fine, boot 386BSD -> ethernet ok. well -- it's another of these "kernel trashing things when panicking" stories, but knowing this effect may save other ppl than me some time. cheers wiljo -- wiljo@kiel.uucp voice:+49 431 95311 fax: +49 431 978126 "Alle woll'n was von mir haben / keiner will was von mir wissen" Die Lassie Singers --- "P.A.R.A.N.O.I.D"
