Time out problem with BSD 1.1R and Quantum/BusLogic combo Date: 2 Jun 1994 18:56:22 -0400 Organization: Homewood Academic Computing, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md, USA Lines: 40 Distribution: world Message-ID: <2slo2mINNi1m@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu I've just decided to install FreeBSD 1.1, so I went out and upgraded my PC to a BusLogic BT-545S and a Quantum Empire 1080S 1.08GB drive. A friend of mine is helping me to install this and I frequently get an error "adapter not accepting commands...frozen???". I've only seen one other person post a similar problem on the net, but have not heard any responses. He too seems to be having a problem with his Quantum drive. Since he is using an Adaptec card, it seems safe to rule out the possibility that my BusLogic card is the culprit. Is anyone successfully using a Quantum SCSI drive? If so, what model? Did you change any of the default jumper settings? Has anyone had any problems with the BusLogic card? For those who are using this card, what switch/jumper settings are you using? We have noticed that the errors only occur when: - booting - using tar - using gunzip - doing nothing (don't ask me) We have done huge FTP transfers, copying, and deleting, and have not encountered any problems. This leads me to think that there are a few bugs in FreeBSD 1.1 release. FYI, my system is: 486DX33, 256K cache 16MB RAM Diamond SpeedStar (Tseng 4000) 2S/1P 2 floppies 3Com 3C503 Logitech mouse Any help would be appreciated. Please respond via email. Thanks in advance, Wes Hsu
