I have had very loud arguments with an associate on this issue, but my
opinion is "No."

Dependent on _what_ Macintosh you have, the MacBSD NetBSD port,
is FREE, and does not depend upon special networking libraries for
programmers, and runs as a standalone, rather than under the Macintosh
operating system and filing system.

I checked the bin distribution for it tonight, and noted recent file
dates, so it appears as though it is being worked on again.

I am not sure how closely it is based on NetBSD, and hence, how close it
will come ever to 4.4, but from what I understand, it certainly is a
viable *NIX at this stage.

ftp to: cray-ymp.acm.stuorg.vt.edu in the directory /pub/NetBSD_Mac

and at least check out the README's before you plunk down the money.
