Hi,

reading about the BSD-counter I took a look at the articles
posted to c.o.3.* in order to make some more statistics :-)

BTW, flames > /dev/null

Taking the `From: ' field from the news articles as input for
all statistics it gave the following results:
(Yes, I didn't sum together Jordan's 10+ mail addresses -
he counts for 10 anyway and I am too lazy :-)

 - all posts in about the last 7 months: 9751 (the database)
 - these articles were posted from 2317 different people
 - the repartition of the articles/posters is as follows:

   articles: 1 posters: 1179
                  2 404
                3-5 396 \
               6-10 179 |
              11-50 144 > 734
             51-100 6 |
               100+ 9 /

Making the assumption that nearly all *BSD users have news
access :-) and post more than just one or two articles we have
about 700 users (?) or at least 700 more than only casual posters
(with 2+ articles)...

IMO, the figures reflect well the actual BSD-counter figure of
nearly 700 registrations...

Some remarks:

 - Perhaps one of the official archive sites should remake the
whole thing from the beginning of c.o.3.*
(I can't imagine that somebody began with 386bsd and doesn't
   use *BSD any more :-)

 - Is it possible to make such a thing taking into account the
   *BSD maillists too?

For the curious, here are the TOP 10 posters:
