I tried to send this via mail but it bounced with the good old
550 user unknown bit.
As far as I know, to boot with the generic kernel on 09, your IRQ and
other stuff has to match what the GENERIC kernel was built with.

In the current dist this is:

    irq 11  drq 5 io port 0x330

I don't believe this has changed from 0.9.  If this is your current
setup, you have other problems.  If it isn't, change it to match.
Once you have the OS up, you can rebuild the kernel with your
preferred setup, although it's highly preferable, at least for things
like the disk controllers, to match what the generic kernel uses just
because it allows you to boot with any generic kernel, useful when 
you go to upgrade to current or 1.0 when it's out.
