Life's too short to muck around with : >goofy hardware. : Incidentally, I should point out: I've run into a *lot* more : motherboards with loser VLB designs than motherboards with loser EISA. : Actually, I've seen very few boards with bad EISA. I concur. I recently moved my hard-disk and 2 3c509 cards from a working Dell 486/66 with EISA to another generic 486/66. The only two adapters that were different were my VLB-scsi controller and VLB video card. The Dell had an EISA scsi controller and an ISA video card. The problem that arose was that after about 10 minutes of reasonably light network traffic, a card would hang (depending on which interface the traffic was using). After some playing around in the bios I found that I was still having the problem. So; someone suggested moving my scsi controller from one VLB slot to another. I did this and now the 3c509's would run overnight without dying but would still occasionally hang. (and for those who would think that I had an interrupt/base_addr conflict; don't worry; I'm positive that I don't). Anyhow; I've gone back to my old EISA system which worked just fine and I'm happy again. The VLB box will just be a nice quick DOS machine... VLB is an evil kludge (I'm convinced). -- hpeyerl@novatel.ca | NovAtel Commnications Ltd. hpeyerl@fsa.ca | <nothing I say matters anyway> "A sucking chest wound is nature's way of telling you to slow down."
