My Logitech Series 9 serial mouse works nice with the sio driver

Xconfig file:
Logitech	"/dev/cua00"

I use the sio driver with
options "COM_BIDIR"
enabled. I initialize both serial port with
/sbin/comcontrol /dev/tty00 bidir
/sbin/comcontrol /dev/tty01 bidir
in /etc/rc.local. I think this isn't necessary, but it works .. so try...
