hi,

switch to FreeBSD-1.1, please....

few people like to look back in the past. 1.1(Alpha,Beta,
Gamma,Release)
was out for four months time. even you alter
the LOAD_ADDR in /sys/i386/conf won't help you much as compare
to upgrading to 1.1. there had been much changes from 1.0X to
1.1 and you'll find that XF86-2.1 and latter no longer support
1.0X.

well, to answer your question, still:
   1) look around /sys/i386/conf for LOAD_ADDR
   2) there should be some value changes
   3) change that to another value to make room for the kernel.

best wishes,

clarence
