I have a 1542 CF that is only a couple of months old, and this boots from
the first hard disk, starting the scan from 0. I discovered
Because the disk at ID0 flaked and I removed it. It booted from ID1
with no change to anything - but its Not a CD, and I cant choose which
device to boot from either by prompt or by setup - which ie what we want.
Ideally, it would be nice to choose the partition too!

Eventually I had to reset the id to 0, cause lots of other software
barfed supposing that the boot drive was 0 and bypassing the bios.

My 1542C which is over 6 month old DOES NOT DO THIS. So perhaps I need a
 bios upgrade.

.. Backup the hard disk? There's no gear stick!
