Then in your : > /etc/rc.local file put a "comcontrol /dev/cua01 bidir" line in it. Then ^^^^^ Wrong! [munch] : Thanks for the advice Steve, but I'm afraid that didn't work either :-( : It produced the message 'Device not configured' when trying to do the : comcontrol. I have double checked that I have recompiled the correct kernel : with the OPTION as specified above, but its still not working. It's supposed to be: comcontrol /dev/tty01 bidir ^^^^^ Of course you're getting a 'device not configured' error: you're trying to turn on a device by accessing a device that isn't turned on yet. It's a chicken and the egg problem. Use the comcontrol on /dev/tty01 first, then /dev/cua01 will be accessible. You're the unfortunate victim of somebody else's temporary memory lapse, I'm afraid. :) : I'm afraid that I shall have to give up and get on with Linux instead. Its a : shame because I think that FreeBSD seems to be a good o/s to use, but if I : can't use my modem with it then I'm afraid that it is not for me :-( Ugh. It really pains me to hear you say this. : Thanks again for your help... : -- : Ian Steel : (Ex FreeBSD user(?) :-( ) I hope not. :) -Bill -- _ /\ _ Join the / \_/\_/ \_/\_/ \ .----.
