How do you get FreeBSD to recognize localtime and quit : saying "See zic(8) or link /etc/localtime directly" ? : Thanks From A FreeBSD Rookie... : -- : ============================================================================= : Matt Klevemann, Branch Of Information Services (ADP), U.S. Bureau Of Mines Check out /usr/share/zoneinfo. You'll find all of the timezone definition files there. Locate the one that's correct for your region (as an example, I'm in New York City, so I used EST5EDT) then create a symbolic link called /etc/localtime that points to this entry. If you want to be barbaric about it, you can just copy the right file directly to /etc/localtime: # ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/EST5EDT /etc/localtime or # cp /usr/share/zoneinfo/EST5EDT /etc/localtime Oh, one other thing: if your CMOS clock is set to local wall clock time (which is what MS-DOS expects it to be), then you should create a dummy file called /etc/wall_cmos_clock too: # touch /etc/wall_cmos_clock If FreeBSD is the only operating system in the machine, then you can forgo this step and just readjust your CMOS clock so that FreeBSD gives you the correct local time. But if you must keep the CMOS clock set to local time to make MS-DOS (or some other OS) happy, then create the file and FreeBSD's clock will be properly busted^H^H^H^H^H^Hadjusted when you boot. Et voila: zee clock, she is correct. -Bill -- _ /\ _ Join the / \_/\_/ \_/\_/ \ .----. M00se Illuminati Bill Paul \_____/ () \_____/ (bl00p!)
