When you say `resets the modem', do you mean that DTR is dropped, or
is the modem getting reset by something else?  Kermit may well drop
DTR when it exits.

Also, if you specify a connect script, pppd will drop DTR for 1 second
before starting the script.  Make sure you don't have the `connect'
option in your ~/.ppprc or /etc/ppp/options.

Otherwise, pppd may be exiting because of some other error, and
dropping DTR as it exits.  You should see a message logged by syslog
if this is the case.
