  ppp-2.0.4 works fine on 386bsd 0.1+pk.
But I removed the source archvie, and can't find in ftp server.
#An archie server in Japan is down now, so I can't search ftp space. :-(

  ftp.iij.ad.jp:~ftp/pub/network/ppp/bsd/ppp-2.1.2.tar.gz
or same archive in the world will work.

But if you can switch to FreeBSD, it's nice choice for you, I think.
