The initial install went fine (once I abandoned the cdins* single floppy installation and used the three disk method). But after extracting from the mirror/FreeBSD* directory, when I reboot, I get a panic dump from "init died". I've tried reinstalling, in case it was from the initial mess from the cdins* install script, but I still got the same crash on booting. Is there a step or fix I am missing? I looked at most of the obvious README's and 00BSDisc files, and didn't notice anything about this. I don't have a bootable disk other than the installation disks, so I haven't been able to do much with trying to play with the rc and rc.local, in case they are causing a problem. The init I am assuming is being used is the /sbin/init.18 (there's no "init" I could find -- is that the problem?)
