Summary: op sys errors related to hardware?
X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2]

I have been getting a number of illegal instruction errors, bus errors and
segmentation faults while running gcc on large programs under freebsd and
running linux at all. freebsd otherwise runs fine, and os/2 generally
runs fine (other than certain problem programs).

My computer is a 2.5 year old gateway 2000 486/33, isa, 2 ide drives
(western digital 340 (6 mos old) and 210, which came with), 12 mb ram (8
came with, 4 is 6mos old).

Could these errors be related to a hardware problem? the dos program q&a
plus runs clean, and, as i said, other stuff runs correctly.

I am very confident that whatever problems i have are not related to
downloading or installation of freebsd (ver 1.1.5) or linux (slackware
1.2, with 1.0x kernal).

Any ideas?
