Gidday,

Re: XFree86 freezing on Xserver startup with FreeBSD 1.1.5

I have the same problem. I am using a Cirrus xx28 chip on a VL card. I have
had it working under FreeBSD (EPSILON, ok so i waited a while to update!).
I used the same Xconfig for 1.1.5 and when I startx or xinit, the screen
flashes briefly (sync change?) and the the system freezes and I need to press
reset. I tried te Xserver from XFree86 2.1 and 2.1.1 both shared and not. Still
no success. I tried the old Xserver from XFree86 2.1 which was working under
EPSILON and no difference.

It seems I can't find an Xserver which runs on FreeBSD 1.1.5 out of the
collection I have! I tried a few parameters specific to the xx28 from the
XFree86 cirrus.README but this didn't resolve the problem. The Cirrus has
1MB ram, and the same card has IDE and SMC serial 16550x2 lookalike chip.

Anyone have any clues? All suggestions appreciated.

Phil
