Jeff, I've also read your note re: the floppies being
mucked up... that said, I suspect that you'll need
a multi-boot utility that can boot to the second
drive or that you will have to boot from a floppy
to the first BSD prompt and then feed it the 
'hd(1,a)/386bsd' string to boot from the second
drive. 

As to the install, the install script seems to have
wd0 hard.coded into it (or if its a define, it wasn't
clear to me when I was trying to hack it), so on 
that basis, I'll suggest moving the drive that
you want your BSD on to the 0 position and doing
the basic work... and then moving it back to where
you want it to live.
